Overview

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a public central university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and Annie Besant, the university covers a vast area composed of a variety of institutes, hostels, and administration buildings. The university is made up of 14 faculties, 6 institutes, 140 departments, a high school, and a residential student community. BHU offers a range of learning programs, spanning a wide variety of disciplines such as arts, sciences, commerce, medical science, agricultural science, law, among many others. The campus contains over 60 hostels for resident students. With a strength of close to 30,000 students residing on campus, it has a dedicated workforce of about 1700 teachers and nearly 8000 non-teaching staff.
