Beijing Jiaotong University is one of the oldest universities in mainland China, well known for its strong emphasis on engineering. It was established in 1896 and is a major university directly administered by the Ministry of Education in China. The University specializes in fostering talents with an innovative spirit and capability of problem solving.

Overview

Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), as one of the oldest universities in mainland China, was established in 1896 as the Beijing Railway Management Institute, which was the first of its kind in China. The University has been a national key university since 1960 and, today, it is a member of China's Project 211, which aims to raise the research standards of high-level universities. The curriculum of BJTU is known for its focus on technology-intensive interdisciplinary areas, such as transportation science and technology, and it has also traditionally placed emphasis on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship since its establishment. BJTU is currently paying more attention to international academic exchange and collaboration, with joint efforts from its faculty and students, in order to be more globally oriented.
