Overview
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) was established in 1998 as a public university with an act (Act no. 16) of Parliament, upgrading the former Institute of Post Graduate Studies in Agriculture (IPSA). Later, IPSA was transformed into Bangladesh Agricultural University. The prime objective was to produce highly skilled manpower capable of conducting cutting-edge research and providing extension services. The university emphasizes research and extension along with giving high quality education. As such, a strong linkage with the rural farmers is built up, establishing the Research and Extension Coordination Office (RECO). The university is named after the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
