Overview

Founded in 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College, it was designated an Indian Institute of Technology in 2012. IIT (BHU) has 14 departments and three inter-disciplinary schools. The campus offers residential facilities to its students, staff, and faculty, and houses more than 40 hostels. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in engineering, applied sciences, management and humanities. It has a rich history of contributing to the country's technological and scientific progress, and continues to foster an environment of innovation and excellence. The faculty at IIT BHU are renowned both nationally and internationally for their research contributions. Apart from a strong focus on teaching and research, the institute also encourages students to participate in extra-curricular activities and puts emphasis on the all-round development of the students.
