Established in 1988 by the University Grants Commission, the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is a leading institution for research in astronomy and astrophysics in India. Based in Pune, Maharashtra, IUCAA is devoted to promoting astronomy and related sciences.

Overview

The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an autonomous institution set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to promote the nucleation and growth of active groups in astronomy and astrophysics in Indian universities. IUCAA is located in the University of Pune campus next to the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, which operates the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope. IUCAA has a strong research program in a number of frontline areas in Astronomy and Astrophysics. IUCAA's mandate includes conducting teaching / learning activities for UG/ PG students of university departments to increase human resource development in Astronomy and Astrophysics in India.
