Istanbul University is one of the oldest universities in the world and is considered the first university founded in Europe. The university has grown exponentially since its early beginnings. It's now the leading center for research in Turkey and has a campus area of approximately 18,200 acres. The university consists of 22 faculties, 6 institutes, 6 schools, 16 colleges, and a conservatory. Istanbul University provides education to nearly 80,000 students, including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. The university also has nearly 10,000 academic and administrative staff and it is affiliated with 18 hospitals in Istanbul. Istanbul University is a member of the European University Association, reflects its standing as a comprehensive university with a broad range of 30+ disciplines and numerous extra-curricular activities.
