The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) is a merger of two institutions of higher education, Kaunas University of Medicine and the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy. The university is the biggest institution of higher education for biomedical sciences in Lithuania, combining the experience of the best medical schools and fostering cooperation internationally. The present-day LSMU successfully runs 6 Faculties and 4 Institutes that focus on studies, research, and clinical practice in health and biomedical sciences. The advanced curriculum, the latest teaching and research technologies and infrastructure offer a wide scope of knowledge that leads to a medical professional's degree in line with the directives of the EU. In addition to traditional study programmes, the university provides students with interdisciplinary study programmes focusing on problem-based learning and fostering their scientific curiosity. The university partners with a number of institutions abroad, expanding its research and teaching horizons.
