Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) is a renowned education and research centre in Germany. Its faculties span a wide range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, natural and medical sciences. The university was re-founded in 1817 as a merger of the University of Wittenberg (1502) and the University of Halle (1694). Being one of the oldest universities in Germany, it cements its historical tradition through a strong focus on research-led teaching. The university offers a distinctively wide variety of disciplines and a high degree of interdisciplinarity.
