Michigan State University College of Law, located in East Lansing, Michigan, is a private law school and separate administrative unit of Michigan State University. It is one of only two law schools in the state that are affiliated with state universities, the other being Wayne State Law School.

Overview

Founded in 1891, Michigan State University College of Law offers comprehensive legal education to around 800 students. It is known for being one of the oldest independent law colleges in the United States. Although it was initially affiliated with Detroit College of Law, it became an integral part of Michigan State University in 1995. The Law College is housed in an impressive facility, offering a law library, clinical law center, and moot courtrooms amongst other features. MSU Law boasts a thriving, close-knit community, characterized by diverse students, faculty, and alumni. The teaching faculty consists of prominent scholars who involve students in their research and offer mentoring opportunities. MSU Law provides a range of educational programs, including full-time JD, specialized Masters of Laws, and Joint-degree programs. The Law school has a strong attachment to public service and is widely recognized for its clinics around housing law, immigration law, and indigenous law.
