Monash University is a public research university based in Melbourne, Australia. Named after World War I general Sir John Monash, it was founded in 1958 and is the second oldest university in the State of Victoria. Monash belongs to Australia’s Group of Eight, a coalition of the country’s most research-intensive institutions. The university hosts students and staff from various countries, making it Australia’s most international university. Courses are delivered through 10 faculties, representing a broad range of disciplines. Monash is known for its engaging and interdisciplinary research. It has major research facilities, including the Monash Law School, the Australian Synchrotron, the Monash Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct (STRIP), the Australian Stem Cell Centre, 100 research centres and 17 co-operative research centres. Noteworthy alumni range from world-renowned chefs and food critics to prominent authors, scientists, politicians, global business leaders and rights activists.
