The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) was established in 1909 at the old Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, where it is still positioned today. With a mission to provide relevant and unique advanced education and research programs, it aims to increase the combat effectiveness of commissioned officers of the Naval Service to enhance the security of the United States. It delivers advanced education to officers of the U.S. military services, Department of Defense civilian employees, representatives of foreign governments, and a limited number of defense contractors. And they have achieved significant accomplishments and substantial contributions that have strengthened national security and the capacity to conduct joint military operations. NPS is recognized for its academic excellence, achieved through rigorous study, disciplined behavior, and a strong emphasis on research relevance.
