New York University Shanghai, often abbreviated as NYU Shanghai, is a research university situated in China's most populous city, Shanghai. Set up as a joint venture between the New York University and East China Normal University of Shanghai, it's the first Sino-US higher education institute to grant independent degrees for baccalaureate programs. Founded in 2012, it became an integral part of NYU's global network university, with campuses and programs in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. It serves a diverse student body, with roughly half Chinese students and the remaining half a mix of students from the rest of the world. NYU Shanghai aims to deliver world-class education grounded in the American liberal arts tradition while deeply rooted in the vibrancy of the Chinese cultural environment. Their curriculum encourages students to be creative, critical, and globally minded individuals.
