Overview

OAU was established in 1962, initially as the University of Ife. The name was later changed to Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987, in memory of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria. OAU offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fields such as Agriculture, Arts, Education, Health Sciences, Law, Pharmacy, Social Sciences, and Technological Sciences. The main campus is located in Ile-Ife, an ancient city in Southwestern Nigeria. Over the years, OAU has grown to become a leading player in Nigeria's higher education sector, actively contributing to research and community development. The university has approximately 35,000 students and over 13,000 staff, making it one of the largest public universities in Nigeria.
