Established in 1951, SMU was created to promote higher education for all ethnic minorities throughout the country. With over 30,000 students and a staff of over 2,000, the university spans 50 ethnic group faculty members making it a truly diverse and multi-cultural institution. SMU offers over 70 bachelor’s degree programs, 80 master's degree programs, and 20 Ph.D. programs across various disciplines. Recognized as one of China's key 'Double First Class' universities, SMU has been recognized internationally for its research and teaching capabilities.
