Southwest University (SWU) is a comprehensive and national key university sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China. The university was established in July 2005 by the merger of two formerly key universities, Southwest China Normal University and Southwest Agriculture University. The history of both universities can be traced back to 100 years ago. Known for its teacher education, SWU is also renowned for its research in agriculture, psychology, and economics.

Overview

Southwest University (SWU) is a key comprehensive university sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China, located in Chongqing, the economic center in the Southwest of China. The University’s history can be traced back to 1906, more than a century ago. After the merger of the two formerly key universities, i.e., Southwest China Normal University and Southwest Agriculture University in July 2005, the new SWU has been thriving. The University covers a wide range of academic disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, agriculture, natural sciences, engineering, medical science, management, education, etc. There are more than 50,000 full-time students enrolled at SWU, including undergraduate students, postgraduate students (Master and PhD Degrees), international students as well as further education students. In the last decade, SWU has been committed to fostering high-quality talents with a global perspective.
