Overview
The University of the Azores (Portuguese: Universidade dos Açores) is the only institution of higher learning located in the autonomous region of the Azores, Portugal. The branches of the university are located in three Azorean cities: Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island, Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira Island, and Horta on Faial Island. The main campus in Ponta Delgada houses the Departments of Science and Technology, Management and Economics, and Social Sciences and Humanities. It provides several academic programs in a wide range of fields, from engineering to social sciences to marine biology, in line with the vast marine ecosystem that surrounds the archipelago. The University of the Azores also plays an important role in scientific research, in partnership with regional, national, and international entities.
