Overview

UFSJ was established in 1987, in the historic city of São João del-Rei, state of Minas Gerais. It was born from the merger of two higher education institutions already rooted in the city: Fundação de Ensino Superior de São João del Rei (FUNREI) and Federal Faculty of São João del Rei. UFSJ is a public federal university and is part of the Brazil's Ministry of Education. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various fields of knowledge, from Health Sciences to Humanities and Exact Sciences. The university is committed to the development of society through teaching, research and extension activities, and it plays a significant role in the regional and local economy. In addition to three campuses in São João del Rei, the institution has a campus in the city of Divinopolis and Ouro Branco.
