The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a rich history from its start in 1879 as a small medical school to its transformation into a major academic health center. UAMS comprises five colleges (Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions, and Public Health) and a graduate school, offering over 60 degree and certificate programs. UAMS employs more than 10,000 people and have more than 1,000 physicians who provide medical care to patients at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the VA Medical Center, and UAMS's regional centers across the state. They aim to improve health, health care and well-being through innovative research, teaching, and clinical care. The main campus encompasses over 84 acres and operates as a hub for medical education, patient care, and medical research in Arkansas.
