The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, BOKU for short, with its broad spectrum of specialist knowledge in the fields of environment, nature and resources, is unique within the Austrian university landscape. Founded in 1872, the university has committed itself to the sustainable development of natural resources. Today, it offers an education that combines natural sciences and engineering with economics, the environment, and biotechnology. Its spectrum ranges from agriculture, forestry, water, soil and atmosphere, biotechnology, landscape planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, food and biotechnology, to spatial planning. The university is composed of five departments and sixteen inter-university departments and has about 12,000 students from all over the world. BOKU aims to research and impart knowledge about sustainably using natural resources and thus contribute to the preservation of a livable environment for the future generations.
