The University of Pisa (UNIPI) is a public institution boasting twenty departments, with high level research centres in the fields of agriculture, astrophysics, computer science, engineering, medicine and veterinary medicine. Founded in 1343, it is one of the oldest universities in the world, with numerous programmes available.

Overview

The University of Pisa is amongst the most prestigious universities in Italy and Europe. It is one of the three largest universities in Italy, and was formally founded in 1343 by an edict issued by Pope Clement VI, although there had been lectures on law in Pisa since the 11th century. The University of Pisa hosts 20 Departments, which undertake research and teaching duties. The university is especially famous for its programmes in Natural Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, together with Medicine and Psychology. Over the years, thousands of students have studied in Pisa, including several Nobel laureates and pioneering scientists. Pisa offers a unique cultural experience in a welcoming and vibrant environment, which is recognised as one of the most student-friendly cities in Italy.
