University of Ruhuna

The University of Ruhuna (UoR), located in Matara, Sri Lanka, has been influential in higher education since 1978. It offers an array of disciplines, attracting students from different backgrounds, both locally and globally. The unversity is divided into ten major faculties and is known for its supportive teaching and learning environment and strong commitment to research.

Overview

Established in 1978, the University of Ruhuna has grown from strength to strength. Divided across three campuses - Matara, Galle and Mapalana, the university presently hosts ten faculties, including those specialising in Agriculture, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Medicine. With seven postgraduate institutes, the university places a strong emphasis on novel research and professional development, particularly in disciplines overlooked by other universities in Sri Lanka. With its student-friendly environment, the UoR aims to foster intellectuals with a diverse skill set, able to contribute positively to society. Its focus extends beyond academics to character development, with a variety of cultural, sports, and community service activities available to students.
