Founded in 1365, the University of Vienna (Universität Wien) is one of the oldest and largest universities in Europe. It has a strong reputation for research and teaching across a wide range of disciplines. With around 94,000 students and 9,500 employees, it plays a vital role in the intellectual and cultural life of Austria.

The University of Vienna, founded in 1365, is one of the oldest universities in the German-speaking world and one of the largest in Central Europe. Today, about 94,000 students are enrolled in more than 180 courses at the University of Vienna. The university is largely based in the area of the old town, with the main buildings located along the Ringstraße. ‌University aims to sustain a wide range of studies, but at the same time to promote new and innovative fields of research, and to establish new networks between subjects. The university makes a significant contribution to innovation in Austria: according to the 2019 Global University Venturing I&E (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) Ranking, the University of Vienna is one of the top 20 universities worldwide in the creation of spin-offs.
