Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar was established in 2001 as a partnership between Cornell University and Qatar Foundation. WCMC-Q is part of Cornell University and its medical school, the Weill Cornell Medicine, in New York City. The college is part of Education City and is surrounded by other highly prestigious institutions. It is one of the few foreign medical institutions where the language of instruction is English. This enables a cultural, demographic, and ethnically diverse student body with students coming from more than 30 countries. The mission of Weill Cornell in Qatar to provide the highest education of medical students, to conduct cutting-edge research addressing health needs, and to provide the highest quality of healthcare available and to improve the health status of the population. The curriculum followed in the college includes a blend of North American medical education models with the culture, healthcare needs, and diseases of the population of the Middle East.
