Overview

Established as the 'Collegiate School', Yale University is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. It was renamed as Yale College in 1718, in recognition of a gift from Elihu Yale, a governor of the British East India Company. The university offers a thorough academic experience with over 2,000 undergraduate courses in liberal arts and sciences. It has twelve professional schools including Law, Medicine, Drama, Art, Architecture and Divinity, collectively offering a wide variety of graduate and professional programs. Setting a precedent in research and innovation, Yale has contributed several notable alums, including five US Presidents and 19 Supreme Court Justices.
